At Shellharbour Public School student welfare is the sum total of all policies, infrastructures and activities which promote and develop the following for all members of the school community:

  • Safety

Our Beliefs

  • We believe children learn best when:

All emotional, physical and safety needs are addressed

  • Consistent classroom routines and procedures support learning

  • An enriched curriculum in all Key Learning Areas caters for individual needs

  • Best teaching practices promote high engagement and learning

  • Appropriate social skills are understood and enacted

  • There is an understanding of the values and virtues that underpin a cohesive society

  • School activities reward achievement and acceptable behaviour

  • School activities prevent or modify unacceptable behaviour

  • Close ongoing collaboration exists between home and school

Because of these beliefs teachers are required to:

  • Articulate and enact high expectations for all students

  • Implement strategies to promote high self esteem

  • Implement school rules consistently

  • Establish classroom management strategies to develop consistent routines and procedures

  • Implement comprehensive teaching programs

  • Achieve clearly identified outcomes on all Key Learning Areas

  • Teach a comprehensive program of virtues

  • Implement teaching strategies to cater for different learning styles

  • Implement flexible discipline strategies to meet the rational demands of specific situations
