Students from Kinder to Year
6 experimented with 'Forces and Movement' or 'Cool Chemistry.'
They enjoyed exploring scientific processes and hypothesising over
likely outcomes of experiments. Here are some photos of students
participating in the classes and some student written reports. Today 5J saw the CSIRO Science Show at the Library. We got to do loads of fun experiments and we learned heaps too! We even got to make slime!! I enjoyed doing the cold pack experiment. We had to put 100ml of water into a cup and add in 2 acids. The acids reacted and it bubbled up!! Because I put in really big teaspoons of acid into the cup it overflowed! Luckily our instructor, Fiona put some paper towel underneath. Making slime was definitely my favourite experiment. Thankyou to the CSIRO and our teachers for the fun time we all had!! By Lily Today our class, 5J went to a CSIRO science show. Our instructor, Fiona, first showed us around all of the experiments we could do and how we did them. When she had finished she told us to get into groups of two and three and head off to the closest experiment. Lily, Maddy and I all grouped together and went first to find how to make a calculator work when powered out of two potatoes and two pieces of zinc and copper. We eventually made it work after mixing up lots of confusing wires. We then moved on to other experiments that were great fun but one of my favourites was making slime. Lily and I put way to much borax in and it made it go all hard and really sticky! We also had a great time doing an experiment that made a bubbly reaction. You had to put water into a measuring cup and put in to powders to make it react. Then you had to test the temperature, I mixed it to much and made it overflow with bubbles. It was really funny! We all had so much fun at the CSIRO expo and I hope that we can all go back next year! By Juliet
Making a Cold Pack Potato Powered Calculators!
Can I lift her up? Too Hard!!!!!
Try moving the Fulcrum! Easy Peasy!!! Mrs Munro’s class went to the ‘Force & Movement’ show. They recounted some of the experiments that they did. Naomi P. said that she liked the skateboards because Nina couldn’t pull Fiona, the CSIRO teacher, to her side when they were both sitting on skateboards. They thought it was because Fiona was heavier. Tayla liked it when Kingsley had to sit on lots of nails. Everyone thought that he would get stabbed by the nails, but luckily he did not! We found out the pressure was even over all the nails, so he did not get stabbed. Amy liked it when Tyla had to push down on a see saw and it pushed her up into the air. We learnt about how levers can help to lift heavy things.
